Dear Chris,
Thank you for visiting "My Brethren" and for your inquiry.

You wrote, "I am extremely interested to know what the exclusive Brethren believe and what are the Scriptural foundations for some of what I have been told by them; the point is that none of them seem to know. It seems to me that they 'do what they are told'. I have friends (so to speak) of their persuasion and simply cannot understand if they need biblical help or not" …

Because this may be of general interest, I am posting it in
My Answer 1: Beliefs of "Exclusive Brethren".

Yours in the Lord, Gordon.

Dear Gordon,
Thank you for your swift reply, the information you gave only increases my fears for the few 'genuine' christians I know of in the 'Jims'.

  • Please tell me, of what fellowship/assembly/group are you and are there any in New Zealand who I could meet and discuss things with? You are welcome to forward my address and e-mail.

I have always been a great fan of Darby and Coates and fail to understand how things have gone so far from what they were originally given to do by God.

Once again, thank you, Regards in Jesus, Chris Kelly.

Dear Chris,
As to your question Chris, through various circumstances the few here in Toronto do not have many 'formal' links of fellowship elsewhere.

  • You can read a little about us on my "Personal" page.

  • I would be glad to go over this with you later.

  • By the way, I have no information on your background or connections as yet.

As to, "are there any in New Zealand who I could meet and discuss things with?",

  • by copy of this email I am asking Phil Gasston, of Kerikeri, NZ – who is of a similar background and convictions – if he would be free to contact you.

  • Perhaps both of you would let me know if you make contact, and how you get on.

Yours in our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

August 25, 2003: This message appeared on another site.
I just want to let all the friends and family of (William) Gordon Hewines know that he passed away peacefully this evening. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Blain), his four children, Cameron, Calvin, Valerie and Gary as well as 5 grandchildren … I never really knew my grandfather, but a great legacy has been passed on through the generations.

Fri, 29 Aug 2003

Dear Sara,
Thanks for the notice re Gordon Hewines, who we remember well as we do many of the Hamilton-Burlington brethren.

  • We live in Toronto and often visted Burlington prior to 1971 when we withdrew.

  • We would be interested to hear from you. Are you are related to Jim and Ruth Kennedy of Cambridge?

Perhaps you will visit our web site and sign the Guest Book.

Hello,
I very much appreciate hearing from you. Hearing from anyone who knew my grandfather gives me a better idea about who he was.

  • I am not related to Jim and Ruth of Cambridge. My father was from Ancaster and never a part of the church.

I have, in fact, visited your site before. I have only glanced at it in the past, but I will probably take more time to browse it in the near future.

Again, thank you for writing. Sara ;)

It is with regret, but joy in knowing that she is now free, that I inform you of the death of my dear mother, Grace Kerkham nee Gillmore, 16th July 1913 - 2nd July 2001.

  • Sadly due to Mother remaining in fellowship, I had little contact with her or my brother since 1970.

Dear Bill,
Welcome to 'My Brethren' and thanks for your kind remarks and for sharing your background with us.

  • It's always good to meet someone who is also "a lover of good poetry" and shares our interest in hymns.

  • I'm sure that Laurie Twinam will be interested in your comments.

We don't have any tapes or cd's of hymn tunes but, as you may already know, there are a number of tune available on History: Hymns 4: Words and Tunes.

  • More will be added as the Lord enables us. The music is computer generated and not professional quality, but should be of help in learning tunes.

It's good that the Lord has helped you overcome so as to be able to sing. When we join in the "new song", Rev. 5: 9, none will be "tone deaf".

  • Even now as together in the Father's presence we can experience it spiritually:

    The Holy Spirit's power reveals
    The things that to our peace belong;
Here nothing ill can now intrude,
Nor jarring notes disturb our song.
    – Hymn 116: 2

Please don't hesitate to write again.

In our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Is there a web adddress or an Email address that I can send some poems to? Here is a small sample from my filing cabinet.

To: Bill Knapp
Mon, 23 Feb 2004

Dear Bill,
Thank you for the poetry selections. It is good to hear from others with an appreciation for poetry on subjects of the truth.

  • We're sorry that we do not know of any other websites that publish Christian poetry and we have not made provisions for additions to our poetry section at this time.

  • But keep looking, there may be something out there.

  • Check the hymn book section also, which has tune files you can play – and more coming.

Since you suggested that you have a fair amount of poetry, we thought it might make sense to open a poetry website of your own.

  • This can be done on Geocities without any knowledge of html or much computer experience.

  • There are step by step instructions on how to set pages up and even templates with all kinds of backgrounds and colors, etc. And the monthly cost is very small.

  • Please let us know if that interests you and I will give you more information.

Yours in the Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Dear Harry,
We have never met but I recall some correspondence with you some years ago when I enquired about "Youthful Days". I saw some familiar names – Alex Walker with whom I used to correspond and David Waterfall who stayed with us in 1971. I heard David was with Christ – can you confirm?

I would be glad of any news of yourself and the brethren with whom you meet. There is so little information as to the many scattered saints.

Just recently – after 25 years or so – renewed contact with Laurie Twinam in your area.

Perhaps you might visit the "My Brethren web site and leave a note in the Guest Book.

Dear Gordon,
Thanks for the email of last Tuesday. [Balance is in Guest Book.] I can't remember the correspondence of which you write – was it me or Jan Taylor with whom you corresponded. I took on the editorship of Youthful Days in 1994, after Jan was taken to be with the Lord.

FDW was taken home earlier this year, I think around February.

I am not sure who else you would have known from past times, if you mention a few names maybe I can help but I haven't kept up with FDW's generation; (I was after all a boy in 1970).

With Christian love, Harry.

Dear Harry,
I regret not having replied sooner. Actually I had one letter each to and from both Jan Taylor and yourself – I am not surprised you don't remember.

I would be interested to know if Alex Walker of Edinburgh is still alive and if he has an e-mail address. This may sound strange but although I corresponded with him I have no idea of his age.

Also I am interested in Dr. Rooke, unknown to me but I have seen his name in several letters some years ago.

Thanks for your help.

Dear Jim,
Welcome to 'My Brethren' and thanks for sharing some of your personal history.

  • I'm glad you find MB interesting and trust you will return and explore the good ministry. If the Lord will, some new articles will be added monthly for some time to come.

Yes, the names of JND and CHM are familiar to many, even some of their ministry, but few know anything of their history or of their stand for the truth.

  • If you haven't read them yet you may find the sketches in the Biography group enlightening.

You say, "I know there are assemblies in the Toronto area of the same doctrinal stand as we were and am surprised that you are not familiar with them or fellowship with them".

  • In fact, Jim, I am quite familiar with the "assemblies" to which you refer, and with their "doctrinal stand".

  • Since my conversion at 16 years in 1946, I have had personal contact with a number of individuals connected with those "assemblies" whom I respect as members of the body of Christ.

  • At the same time there are several "doctrinal" and historical matters on which there is wide disagreement and which, from both sides, would preclude fellowship.

  • Some of these matters are basic as to how we approach gathering. See

  • for some background.

You say, "I get the sense that infant baptism is consistent with your belief".

  • Actully, "infant baptism" is a misnomer often indiscriminately – and sometimes derogatorily – applied to those who hold and practise 'household baptism'.

  • I have no doubt that the Scriptures instruct us as to the baptism of a Christian household, and of its members, which usually includes children of various ages and of course subsequent newborns.

  • As the Scriptural basis is fully examined in

  • I suggest you review it first and then, if you wish, we can discuss it further.

I appreciate your willingness to raise questions and trust we can continue contacts on a brotherly basis.

In our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

I am enclosing the promised notes of Burial Meeting of Mr. G. R. Cowell. etc. [See: Lydia Kosova, Fri, 26 Nov 1999.]

We pray daily for you both, so that the Lord might give you the needed strength and bless your effort of love.

P.S. Most of the translated ministry has been published in our year book "Milost A Pravda" (Grace and Truth) 1981- 1999 as well as in the monthly magazine "Dni Mladosti" (Youthful Days) 1994-1999.

  • Note: This refers to an enclosed list of some 200 items translated into Slovak by B.K., consisting of many of the tracts published by Kingston Bible Trust. G.A.R.

We distribute tracts daily.

"The Treacherous River" by S. J. B. Carter was translated into Czech by young brother Martin (uncertain) in Prague, and it is circulating in the Czech Republic.

Your prayers will be valued very much. B.K.

  • Many thanks, and greetings to you and your wife Hana – to Lydia too of course – from Betty and me.

The notes are very interesting and I hope to post them on MB in January or February. Your letter is now in the "Mailbox". Perhaps Lydia will check it.

You have been very busy over many years in translation, and I can appreciate the great labour involved.

  • Certainly we will pray for you in your tract distribution, and thank you for yours for us and for MB.

  • The Lord's work is varied and widespread, but "every one joined in the work and labouring" is under His watchful eye.

  • Yesterday he read the moving biography of Mr. G. R. Cowell and after reading your note at the end – "Unfortunately there are no notes of the burial meeting" he realised that he has got in his bookcase some typed materials from Mr. P. Haddad, which you might find useful:

  • Notes of Burial Meeting of Mr. G. R. Cowell – 26th Feb. 1963.

  • Revised Notes of an Address at Guildford – 7th Aug. 961 – GRC

He will make copies for you and send by air mail soon.

Dear Mich,
Welcome to our first guest from Russia!

Thanks for accepting my invitation to visit MB, and for your kind remarks. I hope you will visit again.

We appreciate a hymn in our hymn book by Daniel Otsing (1850-1936) who lived in St. Petersburg until he was banished by the Communists.

I understand the problem with English, but would be happy if you would like to share any details about yourself.

Yours in our Lord Jesus, Gordon,

Mich felt that his English was not good enough to be posted and has requested that the Russian text – which MB is not able to verify – be posted. He has now agreed to some editing of his English text – as best we can – for smoother reading. Future email from Mich will be posted on this basis for the interest and prayers of guests. The help of any Russian speaking guests to ensure accuracy of the English text would be appreciated.
Note: Another guest who reads Russian has informed me that the 'Russian' text as it has come by email and appeared on this page was not really Russian. In view of this I have notified Mich that this text will be removed.

From: Mikhail Kounitsyn
Sun, 9 Jul 2000

Dear brother,
On your request to write about myself, after several delays, I answer. I was born in 1973 and saved in 1992.

  • I began my Christian life with books by Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.

  • Around 1994, I was first introduced to books by "Plymouth Brethren". On my request a publisher "GBV" regularly sends me books by J. N. Darby, A. Miller, W. Kelly, J. G. Bellett.

  • Presently I continue in the fellowship and breaking of bread with the group believers in Saint Petersburg.

To my great regret very few believers in Russia know how much truth was opened by the Lord through "Plymouth Brethren" and what place this movement occupies in the history of the church.

  • There is only one source for getting books and information on "Plymouth Brethren" in Russian, the publishers "GBV" who spread books of this movement free.

Once again forgive me for my English. Do not misunderstand me, this term "Plymouth Brethren" is only a term under which brothers are known from the historical standpoint. The Bible excludes such names, except the name Christ.

Brother in Christ, Mich.

Dear brother Gordon Rainbow.

1. I have several questions about some christian authors.

  1. Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892).
  2. Andrew Murray (1828-1917).
  3. Theodore Austin-Sparks. (1888-1971).
  4. Oswald Chambers (1874-1917).

Questions are as follows:
How were these christian authors related to the "brethren" movement?
As "brethren" (you in particular), how do you regard their books?

In the same way if writing on this is difficult please indicate where on the internet it is possible to get such information.

Where is it possible to learn details of the contact of "brethren" with Watchman Nee (1903-1972)?

2. In the same way where on the internet is it possible to learn of such authors as:

  1. H. L. Heijkoop
  2. G. Andre?

Where on the internet is it possible define on letters (as this is accepted beside brothers) authors of books. [Cannot edit.]

3. Who in Russia was involved in the "brethren" movement before 1917?

Thank you, Mikhail Kounitsyn.

To: Mikhail Kounitsyn
Mon. Aug 28, 2000

Dear Mich,
It's good to hear from you again. I'll give you whatever information I can briefly.

1. Of the first four authors you mention all were clergymen and had no connection with the "brethren movement".

  • Spurgeon, a well known Baptisit, was very opposed to the brethren.
  • Sparks was a former Baptist clergyman who formed the Honor Oak Christian Fellowship Centre, with which W. Nee had contacts.

You can find some information on them as follows:

  1. Spurgeon: proclaimhim.homepage.com/profile_CH%20Spurgeon.htm
  2. Murray: www.gaaeegerbv.az6.mark.casper.wy.us/
  3. Sparks: home.cyber-quest.com/bethany/Sparks/
  4. Chambers: proclaimhim.homepage.com/profile_Oswald%20Chambers.htm

W. Nee was in fellowship with the brethren for a short time but was not prepared for the path of separation. Some info can be found at www.ezlink.com/~trbranch/neelee.htm.

2. Books by H. L. Heijkoop and G. Andre are stocked by Believers Bookshelf at www.usbusiness.com/bbs/index.htm.

  • They are both connected with the "reunion" group which is bitterly opposed to the ministry of FER, CAC, and JT which is featured on 'My Brethren'.

  • I met and talked with HLH some 25 years ago.

3. There is little reliable information regarding brethren in Russia before 1917.

I trust this information is of some value, although I cannot personally recommend the ministry of those who maintain the position of a clergyman

  • – which is opposed, perhaps unintentionally, to the service and operations of the Holy Spirit –

  • or of those who oppose the ministry of the beloved servants whose ministry appears on 'My Brethren'.

With love in our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Dear brother.
Thank you for the answer to my last letter.

I whould like to ask your recommendations in respect of ΣΑΚΤΟΧ ["brethren"?] on the internet. Which sites could you recommend for visiting?

My request is connected with my poor knowledge of English. I am compelled to spend much time to learn what position an author of a website takes.

If possible, briefly explain the contradictions between H. L. Heijkoop, G. Andre and FER, CAC, JT.

Also what is your attitude or that of others with whom you are in contact to the publishers "GBV"?.

Your brother, Mich.

To: Mikhail Kounitsyn
Fri, 15 Sep 2000

Dear Mich,
I can understand your difficulty determining the position of various web sites. But I commend you for trying despite the language problems. May the Lord help you to continue and to not give up.

There are very few web sites as to the brethren which I can recommend. Most of them advocate "open" views or oppose important truth.

  • You might check Stephen Hesterman's site at http://www.plymouthbrethren.com – it is new and not large yet but has some good material. I know Stephen personally.

As to "contradictions between H. L. Heijkoop, G. Andre and FER, CAC, JT.".

I do not know anything about the publishers "GBV". If you can give more information, their full name, address, authors of books they publish, I will try to find out something about them and let you know.

Thanks for writing again and for the email copies.

Yours in our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

I am near to finishing F. W. Grant's "Numerical Bible". What wonderful reading and great insights these men had!

  • I most enjoy the grasp he had on the symbolism or alternative meanings of the Word.

  • It has been as a vein in the deep mines of Scripture, and has yielded a good bit in contributions for the book I am presently working on of the types, shadows, and symbols of Scripture.

I am interested in continuing my studies with the material of C. A. Coates. If anyone is aware of a used set that would be available for purchase, I would be most appreciative.

May God pour out His grace on His people in our day as He has in the past for these men, that we would see things in the light of His understanding.

Dear Sentinel/Randal,
Glad to hear from you again – or are Randal and Sentinel two different persons? Please set me straight to avoid confusion.

I have been familiar with F. W. Grant's "Numerical Bible" for over 50 years, but have never read it completely. Many of his interpretations – including the general "numerical" structure he sees in the Scriptures – are quite interesting.

I have posted your request for used books of CAC on "Site News: Bulletins" and will leave it there for the next few months. Please let me know of any response you receive.

  • I have found Mr. Coates' ministry very helpful, especially as a young man seeking my bearings in the confusion of Christendom.

  • His ministry, and that of JND, JBS and others with whom he was in practical fellowship, is not only the fruit of personal piety and devotion but of obedience and subjection to the Spirit as hearing what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

  • There are several sites on the web where selections from their ministries are quoted to support the particular views of that site – views which they did not hold.

  • There is a lack of uprightness in this as the main thrust of their ministry in regard of the assembly and the Christian's path in days of difficulty is ignored.

Yours in the Lord, Gordon.

Brother Gordon,
Good to hear from you also!

Sorry for the confusion on Sentinel/Randy. No there are not two persons here.

  • I should have mentioned; Sentinel is my pen name.

  • I have authored two books – both compilations. One from the writings of Watchman Nee: "Secrets to Spiritual Power." The other on Robert Govett's material: "Gleanings from Robert Govett". You can get a view of them out at Amazon.com.

According to Amazon.com "Sentinel Kulp (pen name) is a forty-two year old commercial airline pilot who enjoys reading men of the faith who grasp the spiritual significance of Scripture, and its practical application".

Thank you for listing my inquiry on the bulletin board. I will surely get in touch if there are any responses.

  • I am aware that Dover Bible Trust (PA) handles new sets of Coates and other Brethren materials, but with all the reading I do, both to satisfy my own hunger for more of the Lord and in research for writing, trying to keep the cost down is a challenge.

May His blessing be upon you and yours, Sentinel.

Brother Gordon,
Thanks so much for the bulletin board message to locate a set of Coates writings. Though I have not had a response, it was greatly appreciated.

At this point in time, I am nearly finished F. W. Grant's "Numerical Bible"; so … I have decided to purchase a set of Coates through the Dover Bible Trust (PA). I must confess, from the feedback I have had on him, I'm a little excited to get started.

Thanks again and may His mercy and grace be upon you and yours,

Randy.

P.S. I am in the process of putting together a Web site "Well of Oath" (Beersheba) will probably be the title. Would you have any suggestions??

Dear Randy,
Sorry you didn't get any response. I will now delete the bulletin.

Re purchasing CAC's ministry. It might be to your advantage to check with SFP (Daniel Soukoreff) or Kingston Bible Trust direct. KBT sells at the same price to individuals as it does to retailers. See Site News: Bibles and Books.

Interesting to hear about your proposed Web site "Well of Oath" (Beersheba). I would be glad to make suggestions but would need more information as to its nature and purpose – also whether you are familiar with HTML etc. Let me know if I can be of help.

Yours in the Lord Gordon.

I pray all is well with you and yours; and that His grace abounds toward the same.

I am gathering information on a view known as the split rapture. I believe it first appeared in recent centuries through Robert Govett and his writings.

  • It is my understanding that R. C. Chapman and Hudson Taylor embraced this view, along with the concept that not all believers would rule and reign with Christ in the Millenium.

  • There are indications that George Muller, Anthony Norris Groves, and Henry Soltau were also in this school of thinking. But at this point I have not located anything definitive.

  • I was hoping you, or someone else, might be aware of articles from any of the latter three on the subjects mentioned.

It would appear, from statements made, that Theodosia Powerscourt held to the view that not all would enter the millenial kingdom.

  • Perhaps there were others among the open brethren of that era who were like minded.

  • If anyone has such knowledge, I would be most thankful for whatever information can be offered.

It is difficult to come across data on these subjects. One reason: As they were considered to be controversial by many, and of a secondary importance, doctrinally, these views did not get much in the way of widespread exposure.

  • Hence, knowledge of them, even among "Open Brethren, is virtually non-existent.

  • I realize these were not, and are not, "Exclusive" views. But with the the attention to accuracy that the Exclusive are known for, I am hopeful someone will have a few leads I could track down.

Yours in His loving service, Sentinel Kulp.

Dear Randal,
It's good to hear from you again. I don't have any information on the 'split rapture' myself, having not heard the term previously.

  • One can only speculate as to it's meaning but it seems to imply that some believers might be 'second class', an abhorrent concept.

In the Lord, Gordon.

Dear Randal,
I do appreciate the information but, in view of leading part George Muller had in the 1848 division,

  • it would be inappropriate to promote the book you mention on MB, which is devoted to the history and ministry of those who categorically refused GM's position as unscriptural.

Thank you for the information on the 'split rapture' which I have carefully reviewed. I had considered writing an evaluation but have decided against.

  • The main factor is time, which for me in my 73rd year is fast running out and the positive needs of MB must therefore come first.

  • Then, from what you have supplied I have come to the conclusion that the few scriptures adduced are irrelevant, relating to other lines of truth, the arguments are tenuous at best, and the concept hardly deserve serious consideration.

  • I have no desire to offend you by saying this but, in view of our correspondence and brotherly links, I believe that you will appreciate a frank reply.

In our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Brother,
Regarding GM: Please forgive me. Though I do take an approach toward all born of God similar to that of A. N. Groves, I should have known.

On the rapture issue: I appreciate your being frank. You did not offend me brother.

  • But, I am glad you decided against the evaluation. I doubt you would have swayed me. And I do not consider it to be of great importance doctrinally any way.

  • We shall all stand before Him soon. How well we have learned to walk with Him now, and love the brethren now is far more important; that is the prime consideration.

My prayers go out for you. Yet! At 47, time seems to fly pretty fast for me too.

Yours with the love that He has taught me, Randy Kulp.

Dear Randal,
Thanks for your brotherly reply. An evaluation, if done, would not have been intended to sway you. I realize this would be unlikely. It would have been to inform MB guests of the concept and the pros and cons.

I hope we may continue to communicate from time to time on matters of mutual interest in our commitment to the Lord and to the Scriptures.

In our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Brother,
The blessings of our loving God and Savior to you.

I am looking for bio info on Henry Soltau. Would you have anything to suggest.

  • Tregelles says he sided with Darby over the Bethesda issue: Was he in fellowship with Darby in later years?

As we learn to love Him, and others, with the love He showed to us,

Randy Kulp.

Dear brothers,
It is good to see your ministry is still on the web. May the Lord continue to use it for His glroy.

I just wanted to comment on a mis-statement found in "The China Episode". You state:

Watchman Nee was arrested on April 10, 1952 by the Communist authorities and imprisoned until April 12, 1972.

  • Less than two months after his release, he went to be with Christ on June 1, 1972. He was in his 69th year.

Watchman Nee was never released from prison. While unofficially statements were being made to those concerned that he would soon be released, he died while being transferred from one labor camp to another.

Respectfully, Sentinel (Randy) Kulp

Dear Randal,
Thanks for your brotherly greetings. I hope this note finds you well.

Our source for this information was obtained from Angus Kinnear's biography "Against The Tide" pages 178-179.

  • It states Mr. Nee was moved to another location in January of 1970 where he suffered from either exposure or work related illness.

  • Then that he was released in April 1972 and died in June of that year, perhaps after completing a long journey.

Of course, if you have another source of information that is more reliable we would be grateful for any help making our account more accurate.

Yours in our Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Hi,

The text of this letter is in
History: The China Episode

Yours in His wonderful service, Sentinel (Randy) Kulp.

PS. I read a wonderful biography of Anthony Norris Groves recently completed by Robert Dann. It not only covers Groves ministry, but also provides a chronology of the Brethren movement, as well as a thorough investigation of missions over the last 200 years. I would highly recommend it to any serious minded Bible student. "Anthony Norris Groves, Father of faith Missions."

The following message appeared on another site:

Dear Brethren: Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a small group of believers meeting in homes. Our beginning is similar to that of the Plymouth Brethren. Recently, several older believers have said that our meetings sound like the Plymouth Brethren. We allow 2 or 3 men to prophesy, allow for tongues (but none of us have the gift), hold firm to the silence of women and the wearing of head coverings, the breaking of bread every Sunday and some-times more often, and the singing of hymns and spiritual songs as raised up by the men in our group. We know the Lord is leading us and would like to find other believers who honor God's word through loving obedience. We also know that our pattern of meeting is very contended and can lead to strife and divisions. As such, we are not trying to tell you how to do things. Simply, if we are of one accord or if the Holy Spirit moves you accordingly, please contacts us as we would like to meet with you in the fellowship of the Lord Jesus Christ. We live in Buffalo, NY, and are willing to travel for sound Biblical based fellowship.
Sincerely in Christ, Nick and Marc.

Dear Nick and Marc,
I just saw your interesting message on my friend Steve Hesterman's site. You may find the 'My Brethren' site of value to visit. And I would be glad to hear from you at any time. I meet with a few brethren here in Toronto.

Dear Gordon: Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for your response.

Nick and I looked at the link in your email and we are a bit confused. Do you meet with the Plymouth Bretheren? Are you in agreement with the order in which we meet?

We think that your site is aimed at people who have seen the false ways governing the body today. However, we are uncertain exactly where you are coming from.

If you would like, let us know your phone number so we can talk. Email communications can be difficult and frustrating.

May the God of all Truth lead us and guide us all into a greater understanding of the will and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Christ, Nick and Marc.

Dear Nick and Marc,
Thanks for your prompt and brotherly reply, and for visiting 'My Brethren'. Sorry for any confusion. I realize MB has become quite large and answers may not be easily found.

To answer your questions:

  1. We do not take any name such as 'Plymouth Brethren' – put on by others who like to label people – although historically connected with the beginning of that movement, which is now quite fragmented.

  2. We would agree generally with "the order" in which you meet, but all must be subject to Scripture and other matters might be involved.

Yes, I would be glad to have a telephone chat. There is no doubt that personal contact – even by phone – is better and clearer than email for many matters.

  • My phone no. is — — —. 7:00 pm is a good time for me but we should confirm which night is suitable.

If you have opportunity there are several items on MB which may answer some questions before we talk, e.g.

– Personal: My Journey
– My Answer and My Stand – various items
– Doctrine: Fellowship – and, The Assembly – perhaps others in that group.

I look forward to speaking with you – and I will probably have some questions for you as well.

By the way, I have a hearing problem but get on fairly well by use of an amplifier on my phone. I may ask you to repeat occasionally.

In the Lord Jesus, Gordon.

Dear Nick and Marc,
What a pleasant surprise to receive a call from Marc at noon today. I enjoyed the conversation immensely and look forward to another when mutually convenient. I trust we will all gain spiritually from our contacts.

Marc said you both hope to see Steve Hesterman soon when he visits in your area. I'm sure Steve will be an encouragement to you.

In our Lord Jesus, Gordon.
