I refer to the letter on your site under biography of G.V. Wigram, 'Mr. J.N. Darby's first impresson of Mr. G.V. Wigram'.

• Writing of the commencement of the work in London, JND says: "It began in London, about the same time, through one I had met in Oxford" – Letters 1: 515, Stow Hill Edition.

• We know from elsewhere that this was G. V. Wigram. This does rather seem to explode the theory of a previous meeting in Ireland.

• No doctrinal questions are affected.

I skimmed most of the rapture article and am familiar with some of the statements concerning the sinlessness of our Lord Jesus Christ intrinsically and in deed.

• Some would teach false doctrine like Newton's today and we should be on guard in our Assemblies because the wolves can rise up from amongst us.

• In Christendom the 'tongues movement' with its denial of the purity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the denial of Eternal Security, and falsely claiming latter day revelations or prophetic utterances.

• I would like to know in which volume of the Collected Writings I can find the text 'The Irrationalism of Infidelity"'? It seems to be in the volume 6 (?) but I have the volume 6 in numerical form, and I don't find it in.

My name is Bill Knapp and I live in the Portland Oregon suburbs.

• I am currently attending a bible church that here in the states as well as elsewhere is known by the building name of 'Gospel Hall' and we are described as 'Christians gathered in and to the Name and person of the Lord Jesus Christ'.

I have found your site delightful, I read some of the background information and a number of poems, many of which were written by brother Twinam.

• I am a lover of good poetry and the old fashioned Hymns, I am currently trying to cross reference many Hymns from different sources.

• I found your site through a google search of 'Hymns For The Little Flock' – we use what is known as 'The Believer's Hymnbook'.

• I never learned how to read music, in fact I never could sing a note until after I got saved in 1979 on the 6th day of the month of June.

• I suppose it took me several years more to learn to even begin to carry a tune, but as I heard my voice – and not a piano – singing out of tune, I gradually began to learn how to sing.

• I was 24 years old when I got saved from a life of drugs, so learning to sing after 20+ years of not being able to sing and having many public school teachers tell me that I was "tone deaf" – I had begun to believe them.

• I thought there was no hope. The Lord had a very different idea though.

• Would you have any resources of tapes or cd's with recorded music available. I would be delighted.

Dear Gordon,
I left the 'Symington' brethren with my wife and family in 1975.

• I have found your Brethren site to be very interesting.

Could I make a couple of comments concerning dates re Alfred J. Gardiner, and Percy Lyon's date of birth.

• In the "brief sketches" it is stated that AJG lived until 1971.

• I stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner when they looked after J. H. Symington in February 1972 when JHS took the lead in the London Meetings. AJG was very much alive then.

• I do not know when he passed away but I think it was after 1975.

• The last three day meeting I attended was at Coventry 1975 and I had a conversation with a London friend of many years standing – who is still with the EBs –
  • who told me that the London brethren had been questioning Mr. Gardiner about the changing or altering of the ministry.

• AJG, having lost his memory, could remember nothing about this.

• As I worked at Stow Hill Depot as Accountant and proof reader 1962-1965 I am certain AJG was not involved in any altering of the sense and words of current ministry.

• Stow Hill adopted a 'house style' which was sent to all proof readers and those in charge of editing JTJnr's ministry, and other ministry.
  • This indicated when capital letters should be used and there was a standard way of showing scripture references.

  • The use of good English was encouraged and this could have involved changing the words of what was actually said.

• JTJnr had full confidence in the person who edited his ministry – he was a lovely person and an English scholar, with a detailed knowledge of the Bible.

Regarding Percy Lyon's date of birth, it was 7th December 1881.

• I was brought up in the same meeting as PL in North London, knowing him well during the years 1949-1966.

• He was loath to speak about the past, but I happened to be in the house of Ernst Beck in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1959, along with Mr. and Mrs. Lyon.

• Ernst Beck asked PL how old he was and what was his birthday – I never did have the courage to wish him a Happy Birthday!

Were you an area agent for collecting the prepaid money for the re-prints of ministry in 1964/1965? I am pretty certain I remember your name.

Hello Gordon,
I haven't posted here before so you won't know me.

• My name is Luke Hawkins, born in 1952, and I was brought up in the EB's in Acton, London, until I left in about 1970. I live In Eastbourne, East Sussex. and work as a Podiatrist.

I remember as a child Mr. Hemmings preaching. He lived locally, he sent us postcards when he was away.

• Strange things happened around 1960 and the meetings changed radically, including the departure of Mr. Hemmings and other families we knew well.

• I also remember the meeting at Central Hall Westminster, I believe in 1959, presumably with JT Jr. I was in the overflow where the meeting was broadcast.

• The atmosphere became electric and there was much running around and telephoning afterwards.

• I also have the notes of reading at Park Street, 19 October 1960 on 'Separation and Fellowship'. I have lost the notes of the meeting in Nostrand Avenue on the same topic.

I am married to Pauline, a non EB, and have one daughter Hannah who is 14 years old.

• At present we fellowship at Victoria Baptist Church, Eastbourne. So you see I am not exclusive.

The web site Withdrawnfrom.com run by Daniel Little has been shut down. Dick Wyman whose email still works replied that Daniel had emailed him that he was shutting the site down a few days ago but gave no reason.

• The site was useful in contacting old friends and helped in gaining a better understanding of where we had come from.

• I dare say much of the material is availabe elsewhere, but some won't be.

• Dick's site was also slightly subversive of the Exclusive aim to keep us separated. Have you heard anything?

Dear Gordon,
I made a trip to Toronto in the mid-sixties for 3-day meetings along with Dorothy Cary. Did we stay with you? I may be very mixed up because it was so long ago but I remembered the Rainbow name when I found this site and visited it tonight.

My husband and I were put out in late 1974. It was a terrible time for us; little did we know that it was really a blessing!! We fellowship with brethren here in Los Angeles which we first knew as the 'Bexhill Brethren'. Many who left in the 70's are also in happy fellowship there.
