List of Gatherings in the
United States and Canada – 1879

INTRODUCTION
The list is dated 3 years before JND's death (1882) and 5 years before the Grant division (1884), the first to affect 'exclusives' in North America. This page is from my 'Historical Research Series No. 4' which is from a well worn carbon typescript acquired in the mid 1960's.

The following may be of interest:

• In 1879 F. W. Grant was living in Toronto, Ontario. He later moved to New York, finally residing in Plainfield, N.J.

• The firm of Loizeaux Bros. (now dissolved) later published books for the Grant party, and subsequently for those with the open meetings.

• The "Museum Blg." in Montreal may be Natural History Hall where those who refused Mr. Grant continued to meet.

• W. C. Baynes and John James (Montreal, Que.) supported Mr. Grant, as did Wm. Banford# (La Chute, Que.) E. G. Mauger (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and W. S. Rolston, (Elizabeth, N.J.).

• M. [Malachi] Taylor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had difficulty as to addressing the Lord Jesus. See Letters of JND 3:149-51.

• A. H. Rule#, who laboured later among the Tunbridge Wells party is listed at St. Louis, Miss. He later moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

• The name "Baseler" (St. Charles, Miss.) is connected with the Kelly-Lowe-Grant-Glanton amalgamation, aka the 'Reunited Brethren'.

• The name "Truan" (Knoxville, Tenn.) is connected with the JTJr sect in that city.

• The name "Langrell" (Thunder Bay, Ontario) is connected with the JTJr sect in Woodlands, Manitoba.

• The initials of R. S. Sinclair, of Indianapolis, are in Ministry by F. E. Raven (1898/1902), and Ministry by J. Taylor. He is also referred to in Letters of James Taylor, and Biography: J. Taylor: His Friends.

• It is uncertain whether the "J. Allen" listed at Brighton, Ontario, is the same as the "Jas. Allen" referred to by Mr. John S. Allen in his A Brief Account of F.E.R.'s Visit to America - 1898.

• "James Marshall" (London, Ontario) may be the "J. Marshall" inscribed in a bound volume of A Voice to the Faithful (1895-96) discovered many years ago in a used book store in Toronto.
